Logic Gear - GPS

Set up your Device settings - music video etc

Before you hit the road, we recommend you organise your Device Settings.

IMPORTANT!  your XL488 has two Settings Menus - one on the opening menu for your device and MultiMedia functions, and one inside GPS for navigation set-up. Each obviously controls different actions and functions.

1. the Device Settings in the GPS/Music/Photo/Movie/eBook screen that you see when you turn your XL488 on - which handle physical elements of the actual unit.

2. the GPS Settings in the Find & Go GPS opening screen - which drive your GPS.

Let's start at the main Device Settings Menu.

This Settings Menu allows you to set default settings for

  • access the File Transmitter to update your maps
  • adjusting the unit's speaker volume (including muting the unit completely)
  • setting Power Saving Mode to conserve your battery
  • Adjust the backlight
  • Set the Device Date and Time and set your 'Awake Buzzer' interval  (note - you GPS automatically sets the date and time - to run a different time in the device settings you must have Auto Correction turned OFF inside Navigation)
  • Choose the Device Language (for instructions in Device Settings/Music/Photo/Video/eBook only - you set the GPS language INSIDE GPS Navigation)
  • Run upgrade applications
  • View hardware system information
  • Factory reset and screen recallibration

Tap Settings and you bring up a new screen that lists

Application

- tap Application to set up the path between your onboard map or swap between the map and the SD card reader slot.

Remember - if you're swapping between an SD card and the maps onboard, at some stage you'll have to reset the path to your maps. It's easy

- single tap Settings/Application/Magnifying Glass

- double tap NAND folder / Logicgearnavigation Folder / logicgearnavigation.exe (pic of the word) and return to the front Menu

Back Light

- tap Back Light to set your backlight brightness and to adjust the the stand-by time before the backlight fades out

Volume

- tap Volume to set the speaker volume and tone for your MP3 player & video player (you also have to set your GPS volume and voice strengths inside GPS Settings / Sound)

Clock

You'll usually ignore these Clock settings unless you want to run two different times - you'll rely on the date and time information that you will receive from the Satellites once you have set your timezone inside GPS to keep both the internal and front menu clocks on the correct time and date.

If you do want to run two different times eg want to keep track of local home time as well while you're holidaying at some exotic location, you will need to disconnect Auto Correction inside the GPS Data Screen (make sure you connect your SL350F with the satellites in exotica first so you don't miss dinner) and manually set this clock. Just remember to turn auto correction on again when you come home - or whenever you change a time zone - so your GPS clock can keep the right time where you are.

This is where you set your 'Awake Buzzer' - handy if you're driving long boring distances

Language  (for MultiMedia functions only - your GPS language information is set once you've opened the Logic Gear Navigation)

This screen merely confirms that the instructions for the MP3, Video Player, etc are written in English - it has nothing to do with the languages you can use in your GPS.

You have to go INSIDE GPS - click on Settings / Language & Units to set your Program language and Voice language  - you have a choice of 30 Program languages and a combination of 55  different Voice language options.

POWER controls your Standby Time

- tap POWER to set the length of time after which you want your GPS to automatically go into STANDBY mode  ie to sleep.

Tip - 5 minutes usually isn't long enough  - particularly if you're travelling any distance. Scroll down and you'll find extended time periods up to Never.

SYSTEM

- tap SYSTEM to access Touch Screen recallibration and Factory Reset. (Note: if you do a Factory Reset, you will lose all data, and will need to recallibrate the screen,  reset the path to the onboard map, and adjust the GMT time fron London to local inside GPS.)

All your other GPS-related settings are INSIDE Navigation and  are explained under GPS SETTINGS
